i have tivo. want to switch from comcast digital cable to dish network. love tivo. will tivo work dish network

Spencer Heidtbrink: TiVo series 2 works will with Dish Network. Please be very careful not to get the Dish Network DVR; their hardware is total crap.

Mayola Sylva: Tivo is a set top box which does not have its own channels. It is like a VCR only hard drive based. It is very similar to any DVR (dish network, etc), only there is a subscription fee (i think it is about 10 dollars per month), in addition to the cost of the box itself (200-500 dollars). A much cheaper alternative is to simply get a dvr (same basic thing as tivo) from your cable company or from dish network. For what its worth, the dish network DVR has been rated very highly by various reviewers and has a high capacity (all models have at least 100 hours of record time). There is typically no exta charge for the DVR from dish network as long as you subscribe to lots of channels from them or, I t! hink, if you plug a phone line into the box (which is a good thing anyway, as it allows caller id to come up on your tv screen when someone calls your home phone)....Show more
