Mildred Pombo: Unfortunately, the terminology is not consistent among school districts so it may be difficult to give you a clear answer. Using my school system's definitions, a special education teacher Pre-K-3 would be one certified to teach children identified with special needs from preschool (generally age 3, but can be 2 in some states) up to and including students in third grade. An Intervention Specialist would be someone certified to work with the Birth to 3 population of students with identified special needs. Typically these programs are not administered through the public schools, but rather a state department of health, or community services board, etc. In either case, the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in special education and the appropriate state certification.Hope this helps!...Show more
