what digital camera is good for landscape pictures?

Christopher Calcano: I suggest looking at the Pentax K-7. It has several features that should appeal to you. First, its weatherized. Second, it has a focus motor in the camera body - not found in Nikon below the D90. Third, the K-7 has in-camera Image Stabilization (IS) so every lens used becomes an IS lens. Canon and Nikon don't have this feature since they have their versions of IS in some of their lenses.Since the K-7 uses the Pentax K lens mount introduced in 1975 every K mount lens ever made can be used with it. Of course there will be limitations with the older manual focus lenses but they can be used.Pentax K-7 w/18-55mm zoom lens $981.95 at B&H.Pentax 50mm f1.4 lens $359.95 at B&H.Pentax 10-17mm fisheye to wide-angle zoom lens $519.95 at B&H.Total: $1,861.85Review at http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/pentaxk7/Another worthy contender for your money is the Sony A550. It also has an in-camera focus motor and Sony's version of IS is also in-camera. It also features in! -camera HDR - you can set it up to take 3 exposures with one release of the shutter. The A550 uses the Minolta Maxxum A lens mount which dates back to 1985. Any lens ever made for the A mount will be right at home on the A550 and will be an IS lens. A550 w/18-55mm zoom lens $949.99 at B&H.Sony 50mm f1.4 lens $369.99 at B&H.Sony 11-18mm zoom lens $649.99 at B&H.Total cost $1,969.97Review at http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonyalphadslra550/B&H: http://www.bhphotovideo.comYou can, of course, buy either the K-7 or A550 body only and add lenses you think would be best for your needs. I made suggestions based on your desire to make landscape pictures which is why the wide angle zooms are listed. The only lens that I believe should be in any photographer's kit is the 50mm f1.4.Since you mentioned landscapes, I suggest buying a tripod. A tripod is all but mandatory for good landscapes. Check the Benro "Travel Angel" series at B&H. You'll also want a quality Skylight or UV filter t! o protect the front element of every lens you have. Choose fro! m B+W, Heliopan, Tiffen, Hoya....Show more

Willetta Munhall: The pictures depend on you. I took a $120 Samsung on a 6 month trip to Chile, and everybody was astounded at the photos I took with it. Still, if you are willing to spend the money, I'd get the following:Nikon D90 Body (Body Only to save $$) ($900)AF-S Nikkor 35mm f1.8 lens (This is the lens you will probably use most of the time. It doesn't zoom, but it's super sharp, and is fantastic, especially in low light. I shoot my D60 and this lens about 95% of the time.) ($200)AF-S Nikkor 55-200mm f4-5.6 VR (For telephoto shots) ($200)Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 (fantastic wide angle lens. Great for landscapes, if you know how to use it) (~$500) After an extra battery, and a good case, you will be just under $2,000. Of course, you could get a different body to save money. Note that the Tokina needs a focusing motor in the body to focus automatically. They are super easy to focus by hand, if you get a D5000 or a D300! 0. I'd look at a used D80 body if you want to save money....Show more

Ulrike Hert: go with Nikon D40 25420 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera w/18-55mm AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor lens. This is an ergonomical, fast handling, very solidly built Digital SLR with many excellent features (like a 2.5 inch silky smooth and bright lcd found on the $1600 D200). Pictures are beautiful. It uses the same excellent 6 megapixel sensor from the D50, D70, D70s. 6 megapixel is plenty, I get tack sharp 8x12 inch prints. Don't get stuck in counting megapixels. 6MP from a DSLR will blow the doors off a 6,7,8MP compact or even DSLR-like cameras. Especially under low light conditions. 6mp is 3008x2000 pixels. 10mp is just 3888x2592pixels. take this camera for a test drive. You will most likely fall in love with it's wonderful handling, and excellent performance, as so many people have. just for $400, you can take it home. it might worth you a peek at http://www.dealstudio.com/searchdeals.php?type=id&...g! ood luck...Show more

Morris Cuomo: according to hazard you choose! greater pixels for this activity. in case you do not choose to purchase the digicam, as this sounds like a one-time in basic terms activity, according to hazard you have a chum who can permit you utilize their digicam for a pair of photographs or bypass with you to take the photographs themself and enable you to characteristic it on your internet site.
