Why doesent American Education teach personal finance?

Lyman Gauld: more important then history, science, language... you need good credit to buy a house etc.. I was just talking to my friend who is 18 and I was educating him about credit, and he asked me if a credit card was free! can you believe that.. I dont know where are youth is headed....

Kandi Lough: I assume that the school thinks its the parents job, heh, my mom did teach me about finances. My mom even tells me how much she makes. She wants me to be careful with money so we have a good relationship and talk about everything.

Marion Wieboldt: I am from spain, excuse my bad sentence structure and spelling

Hope Lundmark: Personal finance is typically taught to high school seniors as part of the U.S. Government / Economics Social Studies syllabus. In my state the lesson is 2 chapters long, and takes one week to teach. I saw my students for 40 minutes a day 5 days a week, and after taking attendance, collecting homework, and assigning next nights homewo! rk, I was left with 30 minutes to teach in my "behaved" classes and 15 - 20 minutes in my more rowdy classes. I will say it is definitely not enough time to learn about such an important topic. With so many students getting jobs prior to senior year, economics should be taught as the child is entering their teens and ongoing through graduation.on a side note... if everyone were responsible with their finances and only purchased what they could afford to pay at the end of the month, mastercard, visa, amex would all be out of business. wall street seems to thrive on the greed of the uneducated....Show more

Rheba Cockman: Please don't base your opinion on one person who didn't listen in class. And don't confuse your opinion with the Gospel. I think personal finance is very valuable, but I don't see it being above employment skills, mathematics, civics or language arts. If you ignore all these things, you won't have to worry about your finances because you won't have a jo! b.

Rosie Travino: It is also taught in "Family Life" or ! Home Economics" classes.

Booker Moros: We still study Economics here at secondary schools here in Europe.

Dick Baumgarten: Our school system teaches personal finance. Maybe you should ask your school system if they offer anything, perhaps it has a name for the class that you don't recognize.Amy

Andrew Sinatra: Given the incoherent way you type and craft a question, I am also concerned where the youth is headed.

Refugio Gastineau: Many school districts do. Mine does.
